Newsletter June

Hello everyone.

Members’ Day – July 11th

Today you should be receiving an invitation to our first Members’ Day event on July 11th, attendance at which is free. It is your opportunity both to listen to some interesting presentations, and to tell us which particular areas you want to focus on working on. We have space on the day for 80 people out of a total membership of 140 so if you want to come, do book early.

Kings Fund event – June 24th

If you have signed up to attend either of the sessions for the Dallas Kings fund event, do be sure to look out for the DHACA stand and come and say hi.

EU mHealth Green Paper response

I am now chasing up last comments and pulling together responses on this; I hope to have a final draft ready this week which will then be available on the website. I will also be copying it to those who have expressed a particular interest; let me know if anyone else would like to be added to that circulation list.

Member’s problem – can anyone help?

A member writes that they applied to be listed as an approved online mental healthcare provider on NHS Choices in March. They have just received the following reply:

“NHS Choices does not currently list online-only  services in our directory, however, it is an issue that we have been discussing for quite a while.  We recognise that there are some fantastic online mental health services out there and I am actually part of a cross-sector e-mental health group working to have a national governance framework for e-mental health services.  I am very keen for NHS Choices to develop a directory of online mental health services and at a meeting on Monday I spoke to Geraldine Strathdee about this wish.  However, before we do this, I have been advised that we will need to develop a policy and set of quality assurance criteria to support this work.  Unfortunately we cant make these decisions alone (as much as I wish we could!) – it will require liaising with mental health clinical leads from across the NHS and Department of Health. It wont happen overnight, but please accept my assurance that I am committed to making this happen.

Have any other members encountered this challenge; does anyone know a way around it? If there are sufficient members interested, DHACA would be delighted to convene a special interest group to endeavour to speed up resolution. Do let me know.

Challenge eHealth – open for Expressions of Interest

DHACA has been contacted by the ‘Challenge eHealth Innovation Awards’,   which are sponsored by the Welsh Government. They offer SMEs, clinicians, healthcare workers, students, researchers and academics from Wales, Dundee and Greenwich London a unique opportunity to work together to create new and innovative digital solutions. Expressions of Interest have to be received by July 18th. More details here.

Clinical Terminology Roadmap Consultation

As some of you may be aware, the HSCIC is running a consultation on the above which closes on 27th June. If sufficient members feel that DHACA needs to address coding to support the exchange of structured data across social and consumer care settings to complement the proposed use of SNOMED CT, do please let me know asap and will endeavour to organise a meeting for those interested. Otherwise, do consider responding yourselves.

Finally, we have now started tweeting as DHACA_org and will increasingly use this as the medium for informing members of DHACA-related items, such as those above. Currently we have 39 followers so can I suggest those who aren’t following consider changing?

As always do please get in touch if you have any issues you feel I should know about.  I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 24th June at the Kings Fund and subsequently at our Members’ Day on 11th July.

Best regards,
